FAQ on robot insurance

Answers on fall damage, machinery breakdown, electronics, liability, cyber, AI and underwriting.

What does fully comprehensive mean for a robot?

The term is not uniform. It may refer to an individually agreed all-risk or own-damage concept. Terms, exclusions, deductible and valuation basis are decisive.

Are operator errors insured?

This depends on the technical insurance component and its terms. Intent, known defects, wear and failure to maintain may be excluded.

What is the difference between machinery breakdown and electronic equipment insurance?

Machinery breakdown focuses on mechanical and electromechanical damage. Electronics cover concerns electronic components and controls. Robot components overlap, so allocation must be clarified in writing.

Is the battery insured?

Batteries may be subject to limits, actual-value rules, wear or ageing exclusions. Purchase value, replacement cost and cause must be documented.

Do I need liability insurance?

Where a robot can injure third parties or damage property, liability is central. Existing business liability policies must be checked for activities, use and exclusions.

What does a cyber clause cover?

The label alone says little. System recovery, data, business interruption, privacy, extortion, liability and physical damage following a cyber event must be separated.

How is an AI risk described?

Autonomy, training data, decision limits, approvals, human supervision, logs, updates, providers and emergency mechanisms should be described.

What limit is appropriate?

For own damage, replacement value, accessories and repair costs matter. Liability and cyber limits depend on potential injury, property, financial and interruption loss.
